![]() I personally wouldn't buy one of the first gens, for fear of needing to replace the batteries one day. Overall, I can tell you the car is a joy to drive, comfortable, quick, and costs next to nothing to run if you have a charger at home, or can charge it frequently.Īs for service, if you live in an area that has these cars, Chevy will continue to sell parts for many years, like they do for all old cars. The rear seats are roomy enough that I can fit at 6' tall in the back with room for a driver, but don't plan on having three people sit back there, it is only room for 2. The hatch back is great for moving things around, I thought it looked small when we bought it, but it has tons of room and with the seats flipped down you can fit a 50-60 inch TV in the box in the back. Brakes and everything else are like any car. I change the oil on mine once a year, and it barely requires any other major maintenance. But other than that, personally and two other people I know who have the car have had no issues. Some people can experience an issue if the 12 Volt battery dies, because you need it to run the car, so you need to have that looked at or replaced every 4-5 years like any other car. The other issue I've had is some weak suspension link kits, which were cheap to replace. There is a fix under warranty, and it does not destroy the car or anything. It is comfortable, even for long hauls (better seats than most econo boxes) and as for reliability, there is one known issue, the "shift to park" problem, which also seems to affect other Chevy cars of the same years with the same automatic shifter stalks. The car is not at all slow (0-60 in about 7 seconds but you can spin the tires off the line with all the torque it has) and you can drive it like you stole it all day long because of the fact that you are barely using gas. As someone who owns a 2016 Volt, I can tell you it has lost 0% of it's range since we got it in Nov 2015, and over a total of 55,000 miles of driving we are averaging a lifetime fuel efficiency of 213MPG. I do recommend you pop over to /r/volt if you want to ask some owners what they think. Seems like you are not getting a lot of informed feedback on the Volt.
